How A Physician Can Acquire A Patient’s History?

Jeffrey H. Oppenheimer, MD
With innovation, technology and everything else, they would still be talking to the patient to figure out what their issue is and how they are feeling about it. It is also important to understand the fact that physicians always have to get in touch with the patients and make a strong connection with the patient in order to obtain the history of the patient. This clearly shows that it is important to practice core skills every now and then.

Take comprehensive history:

Taking a comprehensive history of the patient is an essential thing because without getting history, it becomes impossible to treat the patient effectively. Not all patients are easy to deal with and at times, physicians need a lot of time to deal with them and connect with them through every possible way. They have to conduct the physical exam as well. This clearly means that it is essential for all physicians to learn the core skills in order to become an effective physician. It is stated that they must train future physicians to know every detail of their profession and how the core skills are still relevant.

Assessing the condition of the patient:

There are a number of resources that all the physicians can use and they must be used by keeping in view the condition of the patient. Having said all of this, there are few skills that every doctor must inculcate in this era due to their effectiveness. Though technology is redefining the dimension of a patient-physician relationship, physicians need to step up to understand the effects of technology on this relationship and how it is going to change the old course.

Devising a new prescription by keeping in view the history:

Every doctor must make a prescription by keeping in view the history of the patient. He or she must check the diabetes issues of the patients or check if the patient has any heart issues or blood pressure issues. This will eventually help the physician in figuring out all the other issues collectively by prescribing medication plan for all the issues.
